Kanaloa protects the living ocean.

We deploy capital, expertise, and influence across science, law, and policy to drive enforceable protections and measurable ecological recovery. We are an action-first organisation meeting the urgency demanded.

Enough talk.

Domains of Impact

Critical Ecosystems

Coral reefs are collapsing faster than we can study or save them. We are preserving the most critical species in a network of global biobanks, a living insurance policy for the ocean's most biodiverse ecosystems, built for the long haul.

Marine Protected Areas

Too many MPAs exist on paper only. We work to close the gap between designation and enforcement, strengthening the efficacy of marine protected areas so they deliver real ecological outcomes, not just regulatory coverage. We want to ensure protected means protected.

Sentient Marine Animals

Whales, octopuses, and other intelligent marine beings are harmed at industrial scale with little legal protection. We are embedding their rights into law, ending the loopholes that allow industrialised harm to continue.

Kanaloa Resources

Kanaloa House

Our Soho headquarters is a philanthropic incubator, workspace, and convening hub, where marine science, law, policy, and unexpected collaborators come together to accelerate ideas into action.

Project Funding

We put resources behind the fights that matter, and we also do the work: ending commercial whaling globally, preserving corals and increasing sustainable protection of the living ocean.

Directed R&D funding

We put funding into marine science research that moves our programmes forward. By closing the gap between scientific knowledge and legal protection, we can move faster.
